Mt Oxide’s Aquila Discovery Signals Major Copper-Cobalt-Silver Breakthrough in Queensland

Queensland’s mining spotlight has turned squarely to Mt Oxide, where True North Copper (ASX: TNC) has discovered an impressive copper-rich deposit of cobalt and silver—causing waves in the resource community of the region. Drilling at the Aquila Prospect, some more than 4 km northeast of the Vero deposit, has encountered open-ended high-grade and broad mineralisation—an experience which CEO Bevan Jones has likened to a “game-changing day”.

Key facts at the front

  • MOX233 intersected 30 m @ 2.45 % Cu, 0.02 % Co, 6.2 g/t Ag from 20 m and including 10 m @ 5.31 % Cu
  • Drilling hole MOX232 revealed 145 metres of high-grade copper-rich mineralisation at 28 metres depth, with a 53-metre high-grade core averaging 1.18% copper and topping out at 4.3%.
  • MOX231 returned 34 m @ 0.71 % Cu, 0.05 % Co, 2.5 g/t Ag—stopped mid-mineralisation because of drill issues

These first three holes establish a continued 150 m‑wide mineral envelope, commencing at shallow depths and still open in several directions. Results from MOX238 and MOX239 are awaiting.

The tale of the breakthrough

True North’s success was the result of a self-disciplined, hybrid exploration approach. It started with on‑ground mapping and rock‑chip sampling—recognizing gossan breccias up to 30 m wide scattered with copper, cobalt, silver and pathfinder elements including antimony and bismuth. Next, the government‑funded MIMDAS IP geophysics identified deep‑seated chargeability signatures under them—a go-ahead for drilling.

The May–June drilling campaign is part of an 8 000 m RC program focused on six high‑priority areas along the Mt Oxide corridor  .

Why the discovery matters—big time

  1. Scale & grade – These intercepts place squarely in high-grade country. The package of narrow, juicy core and wider copper envelopes at shallow levels enhances early economics.
  2. Value of battery‑metal – With cobalt to 0.52 %, Aquila gains strategic value in the transition to batteries and electrification  .
  3. Open‑ended possibility – The system extends at least 1.5 km in surface mapping and is open at depth. Step‑out drilling may yet step up the scale.
  4. Prime location – Set in the world‑ranking Mt Isa Inlier and bordering infrastructure—roads, power, the Capricorn mill—Aquila is set for cost‑effective exploration  .

A human moment in exploration

Bevan Jones conveys the thrill: “Today is a truly game‑changing day for True North… a 150 m‑wide, continuous mineral system with high‑grade cores… open along strike and depth. We believe Aquila can become a significant new resource, reimagining Mt Oxide.”

Imagine drilling into sterile iron‑oxide breccia to then bring up metres of shining sulphide mineralisation—not every day that you redefine a project’s future.

What’s next? Drilling, geophysics, drone leads

True North is mobilising the drill rig back to Aquila. They are expanding IP surveys south and north along a 3 km structural corridor, tying in the drone‐magnetics to further calibrate targets and are completing heritage and land access approvals.

Meanwhile, MOX238 and MOX239 assays have been sent out – each provide the potential for new findings in the tale of Aquila.

What it means for investors & Queensland

Copper prices are on the rise, fueled by worldwide decarbonisation and electrification. New finds such as Aquila, within politically secure Queensland and closely within current infrastructure – arouse investor interest.

For True North – Aquila could be the start of district‐scale expansion. There is an untested and unexplored gap between Aquila and the Vero deposit creating even more opportunity. True North has established strong costs moving forward and investors tuned in following a recent webinar, TNC is on the verge of transitioning from explorer to developer .

A different angle

The hybrid model to the Aquila discovery is what is completely new: boots on ground, geochem, IP geophysics and rapid drill testing: all done simultaneously (not in sequence). This integrated science accelerates value creation faster.

In a very congested exploration space, that precision and pace (and the human drive behind it) can catapult a junior explorer to the top. And when copper-cobalt manifests in rich grade and scale, the market takes notice.

True North’s Aquila could quite possibly transform Mt Oxide—from satellite resource district to centerpiece of Queensland’s next copper tale.

Finally

True North Copper’s Aquila strike in Mt Oxide is on the front page in the making of copper-cobalt-silver, in its claim as a scalable, high impact discovery with the grade and widths, it generates buzz and with upside still pending, exploration model is being validated. Queensland’s mining enthusiasts and investors take note—there is a clear resource narrative that is in progress; loudly, clearly and deep underground.
